"CAN bus support is not enabled in this build of VESC Tool"

Has anybody figured out a solution to this message whenever attempting to talk to a VESC via CAN bus? I am working with a VESC 75/300 and can use vesc-tool 6.02 via USB but my vehicle implementation calls for only CAN bus control. I am running two-wire CAN to a DB9 which is connected to a PEAK CAN-to-USB converter connected to my laptop. Using PCAN-View I can see the data dumping from my VESC meaning that I am able to stream data from the VESC but vesc-tool is not able to talk via CAN bus.

Can't spin both motors over CAN-bus

Edit: I managed to solve this as you can see in my updates below. Hope it will be of help to anyone else attempting this :) I'm still trying to get the integrated traction control and rpm synchronization between the two motors to work (as I believe the vesc is able to do this? A bit misleading that the option is under VESC Remote settings but seems to be for any control method).

How to adjust ADC1 parameters to adjust the speed (not working)

Hello

I use ADC1  to have 2 different speeds. One Full and one adjustable.

When full voltage (3.3V) on ADC1 it works and gives full speed at full power.

When lower tension (the VESC measure is ok) it goes directly to full speed/power

What should I do to be able to adjust the speed using ADC1 ?

What is wrong with my VESC parameters ?

I go only forward :

Parameters :

ADC1 start voltage : 0.6V

ADC1 end voltage : 3.3V

ADC1 center voltage : 0.61V

Sailboat regen

I have a 35ft sailboat which I've converted to electric motors.

All works fine except regen.

I need forward and reverse but would like to be in regen mode while sailing (Recharge my batteries when under sail)

I've tried Duty cycle reverse center and now will try current reverse center.

It seems that when the motors stop turning for a moment they completely lockup and won't start turning again... Like a parking brake.

Hopefully someone can help me figure this out... I've tried 1A regen/brake and still the same.

How to get Max Torque at start

Hello

I am desesperatly wondering how to get max torque at start. My motor can get up to 80A and is sensored (5065 270KV). The battery (6S 45C) can deliver them. I don't know why the VESC limits it to 45A after the wizard process and when trying to run it limits to 35A. With another motor it delivers 50A but this motor is twice as heavy as the one I wan't to use and that can deliver the torque. I am using Flipsky VESC4.2 (so 50A max).

Position control without encoder

I'm trying to control my motor using position PID control but can't figure out how to get it to work. When I set a position in VESC tool the motor spins wildly and stops in a random spot. Only after setting the same position several times does it eventually rest on the correct position (and this seems to be if it just happens to get close by chance).

Acceleration ramping using UART communication with arduino on VTool 6.0

Hey, I'm using an arduino connected to my VESC with UART to rev a BLDC motor, and that works fine. But I can't get the motor to accelerate smoothly with my potentiometer on the arduino.

The potentiometer can kind of control the speed of the motor, the first 20% it runs rather slowly, and anything above that is max speed. And if I ONLY connect the vesc to my computer and motor and use the build in rev function. It can only accelerate at max speed.

Vesc Tool on Carplay - We need a display!

I use Vesc on many vehicles including bicycles, motorbikes, snowmobiles... the main problem is the display!
Currently the only solutions available are the Davega and the Flipsky but unfortunately not everyone likes them and they are not always compatible with the vehicle and its external circumstances.

I bought this Ottocast Carplay product for motorcycles, really well done:

Connect VESC4.7 over USB

Submitted by Lars_Dierickx on Thu, 2023-03-09 16:13

Forums:

For a project we have been given a used VESC4.7 and we want to check whether or not the board is still usable.

Intuitively, we tried to connect the board over USB with the newest version of the VESC-tool, but the software keeps returning the error-message: "Could not autoconnect. Make sure that the USB cable is plugged in and that the VESC is powered." Note that at this stage the board is only connected over USB, so (besides the 5V over USB?), no additional power is being supplied over the battery connection.
