Get data from VESC on Arduino

Submitted by jhanvisharma on Wed, 2021-04-07 08:25

Forums:

Good morning, I'm using VESC 4.12 to run my 6354 flipsky BLDC motor. I'm participating in a competition where I'm required to display data on my user interface. I've some questions regarding the same.

(1.) How can I make my VESC work using UART on Arduino?

(2.) Will it be able to send data to the Arduino, as I'll be required to display it on my user interface. Looking forward to hearing from you all.

VESC failure presumably due to current oscillations at high current

I recently had a VESC 60HD-T failure that I'm a bit perplexed over. I had run the automatic setup wizards is VESC Tool and for the most part seemed like no-load operation was working very smoothly. The only issue I had was that measured battery current (via current probe) was quite a bit higher than what the SW was reading -- I'm mentioning that here as I will go into further current-based issues later so there may be a link.

Full Brake vs Switch Off

Hi All,

I am confused about the full brake button on VESC Tool. I know that it sets the duty cycle to 0. I am using FOC and when I press the full brake button I still read some non-zero e-rpm value. If the duty cycle is 0 then how do I read some non-zero erpm.

Also, how is that different from switching the system off. I know they are not the same thing but I do not what they actually mean.

Thank you in advance

Cheers

D vs omega control

Apologies if this is a basic question, but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere.

I've got an FOC application. Under the FOC menu I have 'Encoder' chosen as 'Sensor Mode', but then under the Encoder tab the 'Sensorless ERPM' is set to 4000, which is lower than my min, so I believe that means it's running sensorless all the time?

My question is regarding the D and ω fields. I've tried using each of those for controlling my motor, and I've noticed some differences between them. Specifically:

motor stops spinning on its own

Just got a VESC HD-60T yesterday and after following the set-up wizards in VESC Tool was able to get my motor spinning without too much trouble.

I don't have any remote control hardware (in my final application I'm planning on using CAN), so in the meantime I'm trying to do some motor testing purely over USB using the RPM and D settings at the bottom of the VESC Tool window to get the motor spinning at different speeds.

Throttle and Brake

I have a Ninebot Max scooter.  I replaced the ESC with a VSC.  Is the throttle 3.3 or 5v?  Is the brake 3.3 or 5v?  I have a 13s6p battery.  The app is asking me how many amp the batt is.  Each cell or total pack?  Also, I have a 12 LED light i want to hook up.  There is 12v, gnd, and AUX.  What is the AUX term for?

Been at it for like 14 hours... HALP

I have been trying for (no joke) like 14 hours to get my new Flipsky VESC working with my Esk8.  I have followed the instructions to a T as far as I can tell.  I cant find anyone who can help.  I know for  fact my battery and motor are good. If anyone is near Manchester NH I will pay you to come fix this or if someone is a whiz, I will screenshare with you and you can take control.  PLEASE HELP.  I am very frustrated and discouraged with this.  Feel free to text me if you think you can help six oh three 5 oh 5 69 five9

RPM increase

How can I increase engine RPM?
At 200mm in diameter, a 28-pole BLDC motor does not rotate faster even though I increase the e-rpm value (Flipsky Vesc 4.2 50A).
Battery is: 13S 6P lithium ion, 48V 15Ah

What do I do wrong?
Thanks all answers.
