VESC Calculator

Submitted by lmochsner on Thu, 2020-04-02 05:13

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how the vesc calculator determines the amount of power drawn from the battery? What equations are used? P = IV, P = Tw, P = Fv?

Any insight would help. It did not seem to be a linear relationship which was confusing me.

Thank you

Factors of VESC motor detection and operation with 3rd Party Hardware

Submitted by shaman on Wed, 2020-04-01 20:44

Myself, @vadicus, @bgdwiepp, and @TechAUmNu have discussed some common observations on our hardware when using the VESC firmware. We observed several factors that affect the quality of motor detection and motor operation for FOC. I will do my best to summarize our findings here.

Getting Started / Prototyping Help

Submitted by harrym on Wed, 2020-04-01 17:56

Hi Guys - Ive been reading a fair bit on this site and looking at some of the projects that are ongoing. Looks like a great open source project with a big following!

I have an interest in developing hardware predominantly and would like to get a prototyping setup in place to have a go with the software and PC based tool to see what is possible before going all out on a design.

4 fried vesc's Australia

Submitted by adamclarke1985 on Tue, 2020-03-31 20:48

Hi i have 4 vesc' s 4.12.  just seeing if someone in Australia hopfully in Sydney could fix them for me?  One wont connect to usb when plugged in comes up with " The last usb device you connected to this computer malfunctioned and windows does not recognize it" windows 10. One i shorted the "CAN" and the stm32 chip is toasted the other one is blown from over erpm with only the blue led on and getting hot have 2 like this.

If anyone could help me out that would be great or walk me through the usb issue one as that still works just can't change the settings

FSESC 4.12 oscillating and making noise

Submitted by hichemhlm on Sun, 2020-03-29 13:33

Hi,

I have a FSESC 4.12, and a Bafang 8fun geared hub motor, and when i do the motor configuration and control it with my keyboard it oscillate at the end of the RPM, and when i change the KP of the controller it stop doing that(there is always a some vibration). But when i set the app and throttle config, the control whit the keyboard it ll make noise(ti,ta, tac) without rotating.

I have a video this may explain more.

Recording VESC parameters

Submitted by Alexandru Ciocan on Wed, 2020-03-25 08:44

Hi,

I bought few months ago two VESC from DIYELECTRIC SKATEBOARD, in order to configure my own electric loangboard. I accomplished almost everything regarding the assembly part and I also managed to configure it using the free version of the software.

Now I am interested to know if there is any possibility to record somehow the evolution over time?? More than that I want to know if some parameters could be exported and how can I do this??

PID Position Controller

Submitted by IanG on Wed, 2020-03-25 03:05

I am now working on VESC, and I have V6.6 Flipsky, and 190kv motor. I am trying to use one motor to control the steering, so I use a AS5047p encoder to control the angle. It passed all the detection and works good(can read the position accurately when I turn the motor by HAND). But now I face a problem is that when I give the angle which in the bottom of VESC tool, the motor just slip and judder.

Trying to read and set MCCONF

Submitted by Jamie42 on Tue, 2020-03-24 19:47

Hello, I am trying to build a system like on metr where I can push a motorconfig profile to the vesc so I can change things like the max speed and current settings on the fly using my remote.

I have tried to adapt a library from basti30 (who added mcconf get/set features to RollinGeckos lib) but I can't get this to work.

Understanding Kv and max RPM limit

Submitted by ug79 on Fri, 2020-03-20 16:39

I am trying to understand the max rpm limitation. I previously thought that the theoretical max speed would be calculated by Kv * battery voltage. But in any case the real max speed at no load is a half of expected.

I use a vesc Hw: 4.1, Fw 3.58 at 8,4V with a Hacker A40-12S bldc (8Pols, 1350Kv). If i understood right the theoretical max. rpm is 8,4V*1350Kv=11340 RPM. I would expect the real no load rpm with 90-95% of the theoretical max. speed but i get 50%. 50% i get also with other motors and esc's ... so I guess I didn't understand something.

FSESC6.6+ Over Voltage Fault 80mm Motors

Submitted by Yomiel on Fri, 2020-03-20 03:45

Hey all, I'm trying to drive 8072 160 KV Leopard Hobby motors with a Flipsky FSESC6.6 Plus and consistently encountering FAULT_CODE_OVER_VOLTAGE errors (~60 volts recorded at the time of the fault on a 12s setup) when applying heavy throttle. This occurs in both FOC and BLDC mode with 100 amp motor limits. I'm concerned the ESC's relatively small capacitors might not be able to handle violent transients from these large motors. Does anyone here have experience with this problem or advice on further troubleshooting steps? Thanks guys.
