HW advice : repair , vesc 4.12, vesc 6.4 or better wait ?

Submitted by frameto on Sun, 2017-11-19 21:36

Hi,

I've just login to this forum after a quiet long quest of the best solution to my hardware issue (vesc 4.12 from Torqueboards for those who know with firmware/bldc tool 2.18 provided also by this vendor).

I hope my post is in the good discussion folder of this forum and apologize if not (maybe you can suggest the proper site/forum).

Can't ajust braking torgue with Plettenberg Predator 30/8

Hi,

I've got this powerful motor: http://www.plettenberg-motoren.net/index.php/en/plettenberg-motors/plett...

It is successfully connected to my VESC (HW 4.12, FW 3.33).

Motor is rotating well, but my task is to apply some user-defined braking torque when motor is used as generator.

I tried:

- use SuperCap power supply or standalone power supply

Cannot start motor - huge current spikes through motor

I am working on a higher power vesc for about 200A. I have probed all my phases and gate voltages and everything looks good.

With no motor connected this is what the phases look like at 50% duty cycle

Once I connect a motor if I try to start it, it starts for a fraction of a second, with maybe 1-4 commutation steps before the abs over current fault occurs

For the initial commutations it looks reasonable. Until it stops.

Changing Capacitors

I got an aluminum case for my VESC's and they don't fit with the standard VESC capacitor that comes with the Torque Board VESC. The kit came with extra capacitors to replace the existing ones, but they are 560u instead of the 680u that the normal ones are.

Does this matter? Can I safely change this?
