How to control PPM output with CANBUS command

Submitted by JiaheXu on Thu, 2023-03-30 20:21

Hi developers,

I am trying to build a Racing car with VESC6 mk5. My team hopes to control the car with CANBUS commands to achieve angular and velocity control. I have trouble controlling a servo (angular controller) with PPM output signals. Is there any way of using CANBUS commands to control PPM output signals, or do I have to develop the code myself? If anyone knows how to do this, please help!!!

Best,

Jiahe

Can't get motor to run using COMM port on vesc 6 MKVI and arduino mega with a potentiometer and SolidGeeks UART library

Submitted by Kokonenen on Thu, 2023-03-30 11:41

Hey, I am trying to control my motor with an arduino and a potentiometer lever, but I can't get any control at all, I have no issue revving the motor with vesc tool, and I have no issue reading values from the potentiometer on the mega. But connecting them is where nothing happens. I am using UART communication with Serial1 port on the arduino mega (18 and 19 for TX and RX) to the COMM port on the vesc 6 MKVI. The vesc is powering the arduino board and the vesc is powered by a 12v battery.

Position control of brushed dc motor with Vesc and REV through bore encoder

Submitted by Greasy_D on Wed, 2023-03-29 20:17

I am working with an autonomous gokart team through my college and we are trying to use a REV encoder and RC controller connected to a VESC to control the position of a brushed DC motor.

The encoder position shows up great in the realtime tab of the VESC tool with the exception of being 180 degrees out of phase. When I send it to 20 degrees it tries to go to 200.

Position control through the VESC tool is somewhat working, but it won't settle on a given degree. It always oscillates 180degrees out of phase with the specified value.

Reverse polarity with 12V battery on Vesc 6, now giving fault codes

Submitted by Kokonenen on Tue, 2023-03-28 13:45

Hey, I made a mistake and connected the wrong wires to a 12V car battery on my vesc, I connected the battery plug minus pole on the battery for half a second, bits of metal flew off the battery pin and I immediately disconnected. I had connected the plus to minus and caused reverse polarity, smoke came from the XT90 power plug but not from the vesc

Ever since the vesc is now blinking red when connecting, I haven't tried running it but I ran the faults in terminal and got this:

"

The following faults were registered since start:

VESC App - Android - "App not installed" error

Submitted by KColborne on Mon, 2023-03-27 22:11

I downloaded the free VESC app from this website today.
Copied the APK to my phone.
Go to My files and find APK file
Click to install it
Installation starts fine
It seems to almost complete, then error at the end of progress bar with "App not installed"

I did a quick search here in the forum, but don't see anyone else having this issue.
Ideas for how to get this to work installing on my phone?

I have a Samsung A10 phone
Android version 11

Configuration of underwater thruster

Submitted by UnderwaterMotors on Fri, 2023-03-24 18:10

Hello everyone,

I'm having trouble getting my underwater thruster to operate smoothly with the Flipsky Single 6.7 PRO ESC 60A Mini and the VESC Tool software.
The thruster has no bearing, a thin waterfilm is created as soon as the rotor starts to spin and this serves as bearing. It should be in sensorless mode as I don't have any hall sensors.

Cannot change CAN Baudrate, Maytech SUPERFOC6.8

Submitted by sivanhere on Thu, 2023-03-23 08:12

I have been recently trying to control a Maytech Superfoc 6.8 with a MCU over CAN. It took me a while to realize but no matter what I changed on VESC TOOL, the the Superfoc 6.8 was running canbus at 500kbps. I have looked at the connections section in the vesctool but that shows up empty and changing the can bus speed in the general section does nothing, regardless of which can bus speed option I choose, the devices responds when my MCU is configured at 500kbps. My entire system runs at 1MBPS so is there a way to change the can bus speed on the Superfoc 6.8?

Drive frequency and command rate question

Submitted by jediengineer on Sun, 2023-03-19 19:07

I've designed and built an ESC based on the F405 and separately the F407 (same clock chip), and was wondering what was needed to increase the maximum drive frequency into the 30-36kHz range. The ESC works beautifully for some applications like motors with lower pole count, but I have an application that requires a faster drive frequency of at least 30-32kHz. Right now, if I put the frequency too high, it looks liek the CWT is tripping.
