VESC 6.4 supplys Arduino over SIGNAL!!

Submitted by MaxMaker1 on Thu, 2018-05-24 15:02

Hi all,

I have been trying for a few days to get my brandnew VESC 6.4 to work. It is supposed to be controlled by an Arduino over PPM. The Arduino has a power supply with a switch. If I turn that off, it normaly turns off the Arduino. But with the VESC connected only to Battery GND and PPM Signal to the Arduino pin, it powers the Arduino!

Another problem I have is that the VESC always loses the USB connection to my computer after having it connected for 5sec or so.

HARDWARE QUESTION: Maximum AC voltage VESC can tolerate?

Submitted by danvel on Fri, 2018-04-27 15:31

Mi application is as follows: The VESC uses a 28V battery to drive a very low kv (80) motor to crank start a 110cc internal combustion engine in an RC plane.

After that, the VESC should be completely unactive (high impedance state, no driving, no regeneration).

The problem is, that at full throttle, the combustion engine can reach 7000rpm, which means 88v at electric motor terminals.

My question is: Can the hardware of VESC tolerate this voltage without being damaged?

HW 4.12 USB Device Descriptor Failed-> Red light flashed on start

Hi all,

I'm after some advice after spending too long trying to fault find on two VESC 4.12 boards I've soldered myself. The PCB are similar to https://www.diygadget.com/electric-skateboard-parts/176-vesc-bldc-open-source-electric-skateboard-esc-partially-assembled.html, but i purchased from eBay.

Hall count drift

Hi Benjamin

First of all , major thanks for everything you've put into the VESC project! Really great to have an option like this for small EVs and robotics

I have been using mine (firmware 2.18, HW 4.12) in a robotics project, for which consistent position measurement is important. It seems like the hall measurements are drifting - i took a quick video, link here: https://youtu.be/BZGFk5If2ZM

Higher voltage DRV error

Submitted by jarrow on Tue, 2018-03-06 10:06

Hi all,

I build my VESC with HW 4.12 about 2 months ago and after some failures, like a burned DRV, I have it running my Turnigy SK3 149kV motor.

The problem: when I connect one 5S battery it works flawlessly, like you'd expect. Yet once I add a second battery in series to a total of 10S I get a DRV8302 error... When I switch back to the 5S config no errors at all.

My voltage limits are set from 8V to 57V and I don't get a overvoltage error but a DRV error.
