Design custom VESC 6 Hardware

Submitted by brightlightbeam on Sat, 2020-07-04 14:18

Hello everyone

my name is Clément and unlike the most popular use case for the VESC I want to introduce this awesome project to a new hobby, namely passenger carrying model trains.

At least here in Germany we use a lot of brushed DC motors to drive our locomotives but the resources for usable motors are getting low nowadays.

Therefore, I want to use BLDC motors to create compact and powerful direct drive bogies. The motors that I plan to use are rated from 24V to 48V < 20A0.

VESC 6 Mark III and Traxxas Summit Radio Receiver PWM / PPM Signals

hi,

trying to get this working. I have a traxxas rc (summit). the radio receiver outputs pwm but your vesc has ppm input. Also trying to use this with navio2 flight controller hat for raspberry pi microcontroller. it also outputs pwm not ppm. i do have a ppm encoder but i currently have it connected from the radio receiver to the navio2 flight controller hat for raspberry pi microcontroller. i can get another ppm encoder to connect the throttle pwm output from the navio2 to the ppm input of your vesc but will it work if i only use it for the throttle?

Runaway Motor with No BLE

Submitted by Marctwo on Thu, 2020-07-02 20:47

Hi,

I'm using a Flipsky FSESC4.20 to drive a bbs02 mid-drive ebike motor. I have the bluetooth module working ok. I'm using adc1 for throttle and servo for a brake/cutoff switch. I have the control type set to 'current no reverse brake button'.

This works as expected when connected to the vesc tool app over BT. But if I power up and don't connect the app then the motor will run away when I apply the throttle. It doesn't respond to releasing the throttle and only stops with the brake switch or if I connect to the app.

Using the built-in gyro for RC cars

Hi folks! My VESC 6 has a built-in gyroscope and I can see the orientation of the VESC in my Android app. Is it possible to use this data for stability control of RC cars?

I would like to detect when the car is doing a wheelie. In this case the ESC should decrease the acceleration so that the car does not back-flip.

Type of motors supported by VESC 6 MKIV

Hello Everybody,

In the VESC 6 MKIV description , it mentioned that the it is able to detect with precision any type of motor including BLDC and DC motors... Is it possible to use an induction AC motor with
this Hw/Tool Firmware ? at least to run it in open loop mode ?
Thank you for your feedback in advance!

Requesting fault codes over UART

I'm currently using the UART continuously to show me my speed, battery remaining, amps drawn...  I do this via bluetooth and display it on an LCD display on my remote.  I also log the values that are returned from a COMM_GET_VALUES command.  My question is this... How can I capture fault codes?  I see there's an "mc_fault_code fault_code;" in the mc_values struct.  Does that mean it will return the most recent fault code?  What if there are multiple faults?  Do I have to clear a fault in order to see the next one in the list?

Thanks very much for any tips.
