Minimum speed

Submitted by Davideo on Sat, 2017-10-21 17:40

Does anyone know how to figure out the minimum speed of a particular motor? What tricks can be used to have a lot of torque and a low as possible speed? What are the limiting factors? Is it worth looking at a gearbox on the motor to get a lower speed (or does that not make sense with an electric motor).

Questions, questions questions... Anyone investigated this or are we all a bunch of speed demons here :-) ?

Ideal Thermistor/Temperature Sensor?

Hello everyone,

I am making some sensor boards and was wondering what the best thermistor or temperature sensor is for use with the VESC 6 HW. I remember seeing a schematic for the VESC 4 that had a 10k thermistor and a 10k resistor as a voltage divider. Is this the best for VESC 6 as well?

Thanks!

Can someone help me understand why I've burned up a DRV8302 in less than 10 seconds?

Newly purchased VESC placed on an ebike with a brushless motor rated 170Kv, 10S Lipo battery (42V). BLDC mode (not FOC), twisted throttle once while sitting on the bike and now all I get are FAULT_CODE_DRV errors.

My configuration xml files are here: http://citrio.us/VESC/

Tmotor U8 and VESC6 FOC

Submitted by protontim on Tue, 2017-10-10 22:44

I have a Tmotor U8 100KV (21 pole pairs) running on a VESC6 with a 12S supply.  I was able to adjust the parameters such that I can get it to successfully discover its parameters in FOC mode.  If I mess with the observer gain as well as the current KP and current KI, I can even get it to run to full throttle under load.  However, at full power it draws a good deal more current than it should and when I look at the current waveform on the dc bus (with a current probe) it seems to indicate that the VESC6 is having trouble tracking and commutating synchronously.  I am runn

VESC 6 motor setup: Resistance measurement jumps

Submitted by thomasjfox on Mon, 2017-10-09 20:42

Hi,

when doing the motor setup on a VESC 6.41 using firmware 3.29, the detected resistance sometimes jumps up and down.

For my "250W" ebike motor the resistance is detected most of the time as 126 mOhm. On some invocations of the detection, the measured value is 107 mOhm. On the next invocation it's 127 mOhm again.

Ist that to be expected? Does it make a difference at all?

The motor is currently mounted with the complete wheel, though it can spin freely. Control using 126 mOhm is just fine.

Cheers,
Thomas

FAULT_CODE_DRV

Submitted by protontim on Fri, 2017-10-06 04:19

I recently bought a VESC6.  Out of the box it has been flashing the red led 3x.  To find out what was going on I went to the terminal mode and typed "faults"

The VESC returns two lines with regard to faults (it returns other lines too which I don't think are pertinent to the issue)

One says: FAULT_CODE_DRV

the other says: DRV_8301_FAULTS: No DRV8301 faults

It appears that this FAULT_CODE_DRV is keeping me from fully configuring the VESC.  What does this code mean and how do I clear it?

Help with Focbox firmware / bootloader upgrade [VESC TOOL]

Submitted by Enigmacpl03 on Fri, 2017-10-06 03:39

Hey guys,

So I installed new motors on my build and when I hooked up my vesc's to vesc tools, I received the error that my firmware was old and I needed to update. (FW3.26) ( HW410)

On my master vesc, everything worked out fine it is now running 3.29. My slave foc seems to show signs of a missing bootloader. I go to update the firmware it shows complete, the vesc shuts off but does not restart.
