USB Unable to connect

Submitted by Bazeljet on Thu, 2019-10-10 06:02

I am very new to this exciting field but am being rather frustrated by being unable to connect to the third party VESC (412 firmware according to the markings on the PCB) and my laptop which is running Windows 7.

So far I have tried 3 different USB cables but I always get the same kind of response from the VESC Tool, ie ' No ports found' or, ' Could not auto connect. make sure USB cable plugged in and that the VESC is powered.'  The laptop makes an unusual audible note which I guess reinforces the fact that it can't make a connection.

Why switchable current filters?

Submitted by BillyJ on Sat, 2019-10-05 12:22

Hi all,

Looking through the VESC schematics and was wandering why the phase current signal has a switchable RC filter?

One being around 10kHz low pass (presumably to remove switching noise, and the other about 60kHz to (presumably to smooth the sharp edges)?

I'd have thought you'd have a single filter or none at all?

For background info, I might want to use the architecture and software for my own controller in the future.

Thanks ☺

How low is "low" inductance motors?

Submitted by shaman on Sat, 2019-10-05 01:59

I see the term low inductance being thrown around here and in the industry. What value of inductance is considered low?

Also I saw that the current filter being switched in and out by the VESC 6 plus is clamied to help with low inductance motor control. At what level of inductance does this current filter make a sigifiy difference?

Forward/brake/reverse mode?

Submitted by RDN2003 on Thu, 2019-10-03 02:13

I have a go kart that is powered by a Vesc.  The only problem is that I only have forward and brake and no reverse.  Is there a mode or a way to get all 3 at the same time with ppm control.  I would like it to be like how brushless rc cars are.  What I mean by this is that when the gas is pressed, the kart goes forward and when you press the brake, the kart brakes, but once you are stopped and you press the brake again, it acts as a reverse pedal so the kart goes backwards.

BLDC Motor Power limitation

Submitted by tecnico.solarboat on Tue, 2019-10-01 23:42

Hello,

I´m using a VESC 75/300 to try to control a 3kW BLDC motor from CPMotion. The issue is that I can´t pull more than 2.6kW (peak) and I don´t understand why.

Motor specifications:

  • 48V
  • Voltage range 36V– 56V
  • 62.5A
  • nominal power 3kW
  • Peak power 5kW
  • Holding torque 6.66Nm
  • Peak torque14Nm
  • rated RPM 4300

Battery specifications:

Hi,

I'm new to electrical engineering and am currently in the process of modding a custom electric scooter I've built. But I need your help.

What Software to plan custom VESC

Submitted by Plermpel on Mon, 2019-09-30 22:16

Hello Guys,

I'm new here, I am accually trying to design a custom VESC with 14V 400Amps.

I have to ask what software are you guys using for the layout and schematics design, I am quite familiar with Autodesk EAGLE,

but I am missing almost every component I need in the library and also can't find all of them for download,

has anyone any suggestions for better software for that purpose?

Thank you : )
