Custom VESC4 hardware - disable Regen?

Hi all,

I have some custom hardware built off the VESC4 design and it works very well other than one issue - the regenerative braking.

Specifically, the system I have uses seven motors and multiple batteries that are paralleled with ideal diode ICs.  This does not allow ANY regen current back into the batteries which is fine for my application.  When going from full speed RPM to zero or reverse, I always get regen on the DC-link between and because there's nowhere for it go, it creates too high of a voltage on the DC-link and causes problems with other devices.

Is there a way to prevent the VESC4 hardware/software from creating ANY regen?  The vesc-tool I'm using (v0.91) does not allow zero (0.00) in the Regen limits for motor or battery so I have to use 0.01.

Any suggestions?  Do newer hardware or software versions allow to completely disable regen?

Thanks!

Edited to add - I'm using FOC with hall-effect sensors on 7S

Hi Ben, I tested with FW5 beta on a HW4.12 VESC and I was able to set both "Motor Current Max Brake" and "Battery Current Max Regen" to 0,00A and write that to the VESC. I also checked with VESC Tool v0.91 if the GUI itself would prevent setting current to 0,00A and it does not. It only prevents me to set a positive value unequal to 0,00. So you are saying the VESC is not accepting to write 0,00A for these values in v0.91? I haven't tested that because I don't want to downgrade.
