Can't receive status message via CAN bus

Submitted by IanG on Mon, 2020-04-13 03:50

I am using V6.6 and FW4.2, everything works good. And I am trying to control via Can bus, I know how to set RPM, Current, Duty cycle and Position.

In the test last week, I suddenly can not receive the status broadcast after I burned new FW4.2 which I modified, the strange thing is I also can not receive it when I burned the original FW4.2.

In the past test, I always can receive Four Messages after I powered on the VESC, and there are: 000009XX  000010XX  00000EXX 00000FXX.

Is the Vesc 5 mkIII capable of 13s li-Ion (fully charged 54,6V)

Submitted by Pelle on Sun, 2020-04-12 12:09

hello fellow enthusiasts, I would love a awnser to this simple question

is the Vesc 6 MKIII  capable of being powered by a 13s li-Ion battery with a maximum voltage of 54,6V (13*4,2V) ?

I am going to build a electric outboard with it, the extra rpm and power would be usefull and it would help me not needing to buy the vesc 75/300 and maximally using the vesc 6 mkIII

best regards, Pelle

my English might not be the best, it is not my first language, sorry for that.

Delayed start for slave motor

Submitted by rsknudsen-dk on Mon, 2020-04-06 10:06

Hi All, newbie here.

I currently using a VESC based controller to re-animate a Husqvarna Akku rider lawn-mover.

It has 2 900W motors for the cutting-board.

I aware of doing a master-slave setup, so that i control both motors with the same controls.

However, it would be great if i could delay the start of either master or slave with 2-3 seconds, to even the current needed from the batteries during startup.

Can this be done somehow?

Best regards

Lars, Denmark.

Newbie Help please, Longer run time?

Submitted by Bildoon on Mon, 2020-04-06 02:00

Hello everyone,

I am new to this whole scene and have recently finished an electric skateboard build. it works great but i feel like i can get more run time out of my batteries.

what i am currently running is 2x 5S 5.0Ah batteries in series (10S 5.0ah) through a VESC 4.12 board and into a Leafmotor 36v 750W ebike hub motor.

Hello all, my name is Raphael from france

i want know if its possible adapt the Vesc firmware for work on STM32F103C8T6 on Xiaomi M365 ESC, its very sheap ESC can work to more 60A without problem, and cost just 20$, this ESC have one half duplex UART and one Full Duplex UART port com available for use, have 3 chunt current one by phase motor with ADC amplifier, and have hall sensor port, and have 1 ADC for voltage input and 3 other adc connect on 3 phrase for initial start default test

VESC Calculator

Submitted by lmochsner on Thu, 2020-04-02 05:13

Hi Guys,

Does anyone know how the vesc calculator determines the amount of power drawn from the battery? What equations are used? P = IV, P = Tw, P = Fv?

Any insight would help. It did not seem to be a linear relationship which was confusing me.

Thank you

Factors of VESC motor detection and operation with 3rd Party Hardware

Myself, @vadicus, @bgdwiepp, and @TechAUmNu have discussed some common observations on our hardware when using the VESC firmware. We observed several factors that affect the quality of motor detection and motor operation for FOC. I will do my best to summarize our findings here.

Getting Started / Prototyping Help

Submitted by harrym on Wed, 2020-04-01 17:56

Hi Guys - Ive been reading a fair bit on this site and looking at some of the projects that are ongoing. Looks like a great open source project with a big following!

I have an interest in developing hardware predominantly and would like to get a prototyping setup in place to have a go with the software and PC based tool to see what is possible before going all out on a design.
