Ramp time in profiles

The acceleration and deceleration ramp time adjustment is great for smoothing the response to control input. When riding on pavement I have these values set to 0.8 and 0.3 respectively. But lately, I've been riding on dirt practicing braking slides and drifting under acceleration. I quickly realized that to get the throttle control necessary for a good controlled drift, throttle response needs to be instantaneous, so I need to change the accel and decel ramping time to 0.

Wand and VESC profiles

Submitted by djevIen on Fri, 2019-09-13 09:22

Hi

To be able to change the  stored VESC profiles with the wand would make the wand truly magic.

Im riding in the city very often, and many people are super interested..asking questions and would like to try riding the board...but i dare not to give the remote... its just too aggressive..If i could change the profile for kids with the wand it would take the fun experience to a whole new level.

Maybe pressing both buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds to enter the profile selection, and then select the desired profile.

adding electronic freewheel function

Submitted by ceejaye on Mon, 2019-09-02 17:30

Would you please add electronic freewheel function to the vesc for direct drive motors?

one of the main reasons why ebikes ususally use geared motors is because there is more drag in direct drives. in geared motors they use a one way clutch to overcome this drag.

a electronic freewheel recognizes the drag and reduces this electronically to near zero. some of the advanced ebike controllers are using this now and it overcomes one of the largest disadvantages of direct drive.

Deceleration Curve

Submitted by slick on Sun, 2019-07-21 21:10

Hello,

I've been using a (V)ESC for 2 years now and I'm sure everyone knows what I'm about to say.

Belts, chain etc. have a certain amount of friction that has a braking effect when releasing the throttle too quickly at higher speeds. I  always get an adrenaline rush (not the good sort) everytime that happens and I m so glad when I didn't eat the floor.

Filtering of motor temperature readings

Submitted by Pedrodemio on Mon, 2019-07-01 22:16

Hi Benjamin, a request that should make the VESC smooth at setups, mainly single drive, that operates the motor at or near the temperature limits for a considerable amount of time

Problem: At high temperatures the phase currents induce a lot of noise in the motor thermistor readings, so when near that the current limitation kicks in and out all the time causing a lot of stuter that can be dangerous

Dual control loop with magnetic encoders

Submitted by wall0069 on Sun, 2019-06-02 05:39

Has anyone implemented dual control loop using two magnetic encoders, one directly on the motor, and one on the gear that is being driven? This would eliminate any slop in the gears and be useful for robotics.

This project does it with a PSOC controller.

ERPM Limit Update Over CAN

josh's picture
Submitted by josh on Sun, 2019-06-02 01:48

Hello,

I am in the process of designing a CAN-based control system for the VESC and it would be very helpful to have a way to change the ERPM limit and ERPM limit start over CAN. It seems like it would be a fairly simple function to implement in a future firmware update. Would this be possible and is there any way I can help with this?

Thanks,

Josh

Read erpm of motor through motor tachometer

Submitted by jordanlow on Tue, 2019-04-30 15:18

Hi, may I ask will there be a feature where I can read rpm of motor through tachometer instead of measuring rate of phase change? Due to I am using a geared hub motor with built in free wheeling clutch. I know the rpm of motor with gear ratio included but when I stop throttle the motor I could not read the rpm of motor in free wheeling mode.

Thanks.
