ADC out of bounds voltage still maps?!

Submitted by Matt6288 on Tue, 2021-01-12 02:27

Would it be possible to reject voltages that are outside of the defined map range?  For example Im using duty cycle center revers and have a system running a 4-20ma control signal that passes to a 0-3v adapter if it losses its control signal it spits out 0v and guns the motor even if I have my map minimum set to say 0.3V I would much rather it stop or coast the motor if it loses signal, I don't see this as being much different than using a traditional throttle for control that quits working one would think this poses a bit of a safety hazard.

Truncated maximum motor current values

Submitted by kaxorpie on Sun, 2020-12-27 23:28

I have the large Flipsky 80100 motor.  It stays very cool, is very large, and is well built.  Problem is, it can theoretically run at 148 amps for motor current max.  However, the Vesc Tool truncates the motor current max setting to 120 amps and the absolute maximum current to 160.  I have a Vesc 6 so it should be good for well above that.  Any chance we could raise the software truncated limit?  Thanks for this great software!  I've been using it for some time now and love it.

Natural Braking

Submitted by e-nduro on Thu, 2020-12-17 17:23

It would be an interesting improvement combining the regenerative braking with speed (using a gain value), so the vehicle reaches a balanced speed depending on the TQ demand (brake potentiometer) and speed. It is something similar to what Curtis does with its "Natural Braking", but they do this when there is no brake demand, just when throttle is released.

The result function should be something like: "Braking Demand" = "Brake potentiometer" + "speed" (ERPM) * "Braking Speed Gain constant" (when "Brake potentiometer" > 0)

Hello

I am working with An electric surfboard and have a unique situation.

We are not looking to power the board to carry a rider at high speeds.

Instead we are providing surfers with a 4 speed surfboard capable of assisting them to catch waves, and to paddle back out.

SpeedControl - Slew Rate?

Submitted by NickN on Wed, 2020-10-07 20:13

Seems not many people are using SpeedControl mode.

I'm working on a direct drive gearmotor configuration using FOC + SpeedControl over UAVCAN for a ground vehicle.

I've got FOC tuning and speed PIDs dialed in but the control code/vesc-tool doesn't seem to have a way to slew the change rate?

As is, the drive will instantly attempt to achieve the current speed command which causes serious shock to the system. Add backlash from a gearmotor and it compounds the issue.

Is there a slew rate control I'm missing?

Adding two reed contacts and adapting the software accordingly

Submitted by WulfKraneis on Sun, 2020-09-06 16:25

I am running some VESC and like to extend the functionality of the VESC controller by adding two reed contacts and adapt the software of the controller as follows:

1   If reed contact 1 shows a certain frequency, reduce the amps down to 0 if this is exceeded (over s small band, for example between 4 and 4.4 Hz,  if a certain limit frequency (something between 3 and 10 Hz) is exceed stop running the motor at all
