VESC Questions from the newbie

Submitted by mendez on Fri, 2019-02-08 21:13

Hey Guys, I'm new in the forum and I recently purchase a VESC (4.12) and I love it. I have a lot of respect to the creator!

I'm trying to decide if the VESC is a good fit for my application; and I have a few questions:

1. Just to clarify; VESC 6 is compatible with 6V Motors (min)? I can test 2S RC Motors with it?

2. Is there a way to configure the motor via UART?

3. Is there a way to configure the Input Setup via UART?

* I guess I want to be able to configure the motor without using the VESC Tool

Sub zero temperature VESC412 issues

Submitted by jetigm on Fri, 2019-02-08 21:12

Hello,

I have a different, worse startup performance of my setup @ sub zero temperatures. HW - 412, FW - 3.39/3.40, sensorless BLDC mode. I have a specific low speed and very high torque application, I was able to tune parameters to achieve a more or less a robust startup and further rotation above 15C degrees or so, but @ 0C and lower the motor is unable to startup at all. The thing is that @ old FW218 and with the same settings the system performs much better.

What could it be?

VESC 6 DC motor Current limit?

Submitted by ShortCircuit on Thu, 2019-02-07 21:56

Hello,

I'm trying to power a ME0708 DC Brushed motor, with VESC 6. No matter what setting I change I can't get it to pull more than 20 amps. When I do a direct motor to battery connection it draws 40 amps. Is the 20 amps a built in safety limitation in the code for the hardware? If so, what is the DC motor current rating on the new VESC 75/300 controller?

Thank you

Dual brushed motors from 1 R/C stick?

Hi, I am trying to build a remote control lawnmower using 2 x MY6812 24v 150w motors (https://www.motiondynamics.com.au/united-my6812-24v-dc-150w-2750-rpm-ele...) in a skid steer configuration. I need an esc that will control both motors forward, back, left and right like the guy in the following link but with bigger motors, and work off an R/C receiver.

questions from a beginner.

HI all

Recently took delivery of a 2019 Trampa MTB. it's awesome but i'd like to make some adjustments to the vesc to see if I can change the way the board pullls away and accelerates. The guys at Trampa told me I could get the VESC software  and put it on a phone that would then be abe to adjust the VESC over bluetooth.....?  So my questions are this

1.what phone would i need?

2. Are there instructions here or anywhere else on how to get the software onto the phone?

VESC Tool Instructions

I really like what you are doing, the hardware and software integration is really phenomenal. I am a mechanical engineer and I admire all of the hard work and dedication you have put into this project. Being kind of new to Rasberry Pi and Raspian and also being a software challenged ME, for the life of me I cannot get the VESC tool to load. I tried the Platinum and Free versions (I know they are the same, I had to try) and I cannot get the software to start. I got the BLDC tool to start, but the VESC isn't giving me anything.
