encoder detection

Submitted by RSR on Tue, 2017-07-11 10:06

Forums:

I tried to detect encoder parameters on a 8-pole servomotor with 80A (rms?) rated continuous current.  Using VESC 6 and VESC-tool free menu: Motor Parameters --> FOC --> Encoder --> Detect Encoder.  Clicking on "Start Detection" runs motor first slowly (relaxed steps), then in more sudden steps.  Results are plausible at 10A current (in my case it detected Offset 103.4,  Ratio 4.0, Inverted), but results are not consistent when increasing current.

Sometimes startup problems in FOC-Mode

Forums:

Hi there,

I use a relatively special Motor: 42 Poles , 36 Slots.

The problem I have: When I try to start the motor slowly from zero the motor sometimes starts turning in slowmotion consuming a lot of Amps but not spinning up.

What can be the cause for this behavior and what should I try first to fix my problem? Switch to BLDC-Mode?

The recognition tool works well - here is my actual configuration - Thanks for any hints!

VESC Tool Error - updating fw on old hw 4.7 VESCs

Forums:

I'm trying to re-use some old 4.7 VESCs for my brother's board we are building together.

It will connect correctly, but warns the firmware is too old, so i select the correct "46 & 47" in Firmware, then VESC_default.bin.

It seems to upload correctly - the progress bar goes to about 100%, but then quickly flashes a red error message in bottom right:

Serial port error: The I/O operation has been aborted because of either a thread exit or an application request.

Appreciate any suggestion on steps to get this to work?

Thx All!

Coging

I have this inrunner that has very heavy coging, any suggestions on configurations to get it to start more reliably? Injecting current on d axis helps a little but it's still unpredictable. I have had it spinning well at very low rpm using open loop FOC via the terminal but it needs 15 amps below 1500 erpm while no load is only 2A at higher RPM.

Lag using the Input Setup Wizard (APP)

Forums:

Hi! I finally got all the connectors and wires and got my first build running - hurray! I went through the wizards to get my board up and running.

First my setup: I am using a MacOS with VirtualBox with a Ubuntu environment. 1 GB of RAM is dedicated for this Virtualization. It works quite nice, so I can recommend this method for those of you using MacOS.

Firmware for 4.xx VESC in new VESC Tool?

Forums:

I just want to check in and start a thread to check status and get updates on ETA?

I have 2 VESC Six, and 8+ 4.xx VESC's. Would love to have one system to configure them all!

We had an initial ETA of 1 week before 4.xx firmware was released for new VESC Tool. It's been 2-3 weeks now i believe and want to see if we have an updated timeframe?

I know you all are busy, and hope Benjamin is healing up fully from his injury!

Thx All!

External NRF bug

Submitted by boards on Wed, 2017-06-28 07:49

Forums:

Hi,

I have noticed a bug in the vesc 6 firmware. If you use an external nrf module via the comms port, it will not connect to the nrf nunchuck unless you hit "write app conf" in vesc tool.

This is what happens (with the nrf settings already configured).

1. Turn on power to vesc
2. Press button on NRF nunchuck (nothing happens, it doesn't connect)
3. Connect vesc to computer and hit hit "Write App Configuration" in the nrf tag (not changing any values)
4. NRF nunchuck will now connect.
