Would like VESC 4.12 repair tips

I've got a VESC 4.12 that's failed.  I've replaced it, but would like to learn how to repair it myself.  I have hobbyist level electronics skills, reasonable soldering equipment, a reasonable oscilliscope, and can more or less make my way around a schematic.  What I'm hoping for is to learn any tips on what items commonly fail on the VESC 4.12 and whether there are any tips on how to diagnose (either functionally or with my scope).

SK3 Turnigy 6374 149 / encoder CUI AMT102 => can VESC 4 support position control?

Submitted by fourchette on Tue, 2019-04-02 23:14

hello,

I have the following motor and quadrature encoder

motor: areodrive turnigy SK3 6374 149
encoder: CUI AMT102 (it's a quadrature encoder with a 2048 * 4 ticks per revolution)

on a VESC 4 board

Can i get position control throught UART with this?

thanks

Current control and duty cycle issues.

Hello,

When running my motor, I have much better startup with current control, but then cannot reach max throttle. With duty cycle, I can reach max throttle, but have high current transients and occasional high current startup stalls.

  • Is there a ERPM or other limit for current control?
  • What settings can help with current control at higher currents?

0 - 100% throttle in a sec

Hi.

I have a Vesc 4.12 and i have done all the configs with my controller. the problem i have is that the slightest movement on the controller sends my board from 0 - 100% throttle.. there is no in between. i cant finetune the speed. it just gives me nothing or everything. does anyone know a setting i may have clicked wrong?

i am using a Flipsky VESC 4.12 and a 2,4ghz nano controller, also from flipsky. I am trying to get in contact with them but they wont answer.

Best regards Gadiati

Strange braking-issue and high currents

Hey there!

When Im using FOC-Mode with my Turnigy Propdrive 6374 it accelerates very well and drives smooth and fine but on rapid braking I get a cut-off.

It only happens on rough braking at middle speeds. After reading my fault-codes I got this: (and am a little worried about the -279A oO This cant be true I guess!?)

Ive read about adding another capacitor to C18... Anyone knows if that helps? Doubling the Observer gain just made it worse.. Im not sure if reducing it to half (10%) is a good Idea?

STM32F407

Hello everyone,

This may be a stupid question but can I use a STM32F407 mcu for my custom board ? If I'm using the same hardware as VESC six (except for the mcu), do I need to change something in the firmware ?

Thanks

VESC Input Using Raspberry Pi and Wiimote

Submitted by Schizug on Wed, 2019-03-27 04:28

Is it possible to use a Raspberry Pi to provide input to a VESC? I am currently working on a school project that requires the implementation of a Raspberry Pi into a project, and I was planning on using a Wiimote to control a Pi which would control a VESC.

After ordering my VESC, I realized that this may not be as simple as I thought it would be.

Does anyone have previous experience or a place for me to read to learn more?

Thank you :)

E vehicle setup

Hi, may I ask what is the setup for vesc setup on a electric vehicle. The load with driver is approximate 140kg and running with 13S battery and have a 48V 1500W gearless brushless motor. The problem I faced is after motor profiling and ADC setting .when put on the road the vehicle barely moved and the motor is jerking.

VESC as a 3 phase inverter to power a grid model

Submitted by pf26 on Tue, 2019-03-19 20:54

I need to design a model of grid, including "high voltage" feeder, a Delta/star transformer and "low-voltage" lines, to show how it is controlled and how single phase/3 phase loads and distributed generation do affect voltage quality. Obviously, there is no high voltage involved, the grid is running around 24Vac (the voltage display are hacked to show 230V between phase and neutral)
