e-bike hubmotor problem

Hi, I'm new to vesc and just encountered my first problem. The e-bike hubmotor is not running in FOC mode, it is just making weird noise. It is a mxus xf40-30h 1,5kW motor.

The FOC setup wizard detects the motor and turns it, everything looks fine and when I select sensorless the motor is turning. 

Unfortunately none of the FOC modes is working, it always looks and sounds the same, like in the video. I already tried to vary the motor resistance and tried 6-12S batteries. The vesc was working perfectly fine with a 6374 outrunner in FOC mode, plenty of torque and turned really smooth. Latest firmware version on the vesc 75/300 hardware. I used the app to configure the vesc.

What could I do to get rid of that problem? I would really like to run without the hall sensors if possible.

Daniel,

      Do you have a picture or a crude drawing of how this is wired? Are there more than 3 wires connected to the Hub.

Post your FOC and sensorless settings. What happens if you push the wheel a bit and then apply power? Does it spin normally if given a bit of a push?

You may want to play with HFI but, in general, hubs like some sensors to get a good start under load. Sensorless works well with some gearing, props, etc. where you don't need a lot of starting torque from 0 rpm.

Thanks for the answers, 

I managed to get the motor running quite good with the hall sensors, gave up on sensorless operation... The motor is running quite good but at low RPM the motor does not have as much power as it has on higher RPM. It also tends to vibrate quite a bit and it feels like some kind of skipping, hard to describe. At speeds above 15kmh that behaviour dissappears and I get lots of torque. 

Which parameters could I change to get rid of that lack of torque at the lower RPMs?

I found the solution for the problem. Measured motor inductance divided by 2. Now it is running smoothly and powerful :)
