Need Your Help with PPM Mapping Remote during Setup

System:

Batteries: Ownboard 2P10S XT-60 42V full charge

Motors: Torque 6355

Switch: XT-90 Loop

Input: RC Car Pistol Grip Transmitter and Receiver

eBoard worked until one of the two diy electric ESCs shorted out. I set up the board using vesc-tool and had no problems.

Now I'm using a flipsky Dual FSESC4.20

Plugged everything in and noticed the remote worked to spin the motors before running the vesc-project tool. Very promising!

Ran the entire motor wizard without a problem. I can spin the motors, brake, etc. while connected. I did set it up as BLDC not FOC.

Ran the input wizard using ppm remote. Nothing. "Applying Pulselengths Failed" & "Please activate RT app data and measure Pulselengths first". I see no signal on vesc-tool.

So the remote worked before I tried the input wizard but not after.

Same remote as on my previous setup.  In fact everything is the same except the dual ESCs. Remote is definitely paired to the receiver. I've tried other channels besides channel two, which worked before. Nothing.

To be honest, I bought an oversized Dual FSESC6.6 and hooked it up and had the same problem! I thought the remote input to that dual ESCs was faulty. So I bought the better sized Dual FSESC4.20.

Now I realize I've done something wrong! I don't know what.

ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATED!

Cheers

Did you turn on RT app data?

Hey, I have this. I did in fact turn on RT app and it's still not letting me turn off the input so I can detect the pulse widths. Any ideas please?

I always get "Please activate RT app data and measure Pulselengths first".

Im having the same problem.

I have a Flipsky Dual FSESC4.20

and their new vx1 remote.

Been asking the Flipsky techs for help for weeks, nothing is working.

I feel its either the ESC or the remote is faulty, the Flipsky guys say they can reproduce my issue there and are asking me to send the hardware back to check.but that'll cost me... so any help would be really appreciated.

Cheers

i'm also having same problem.  keep getting that error message "Please activate RT app data and measure Pulselengths first" even though i have the RT App button pressed and it's highlighted in green.  don't understand what's up.  i'm using a spektrum ar610 receiver and using a flipsky controller.

Hi guys

I had the same problem with my Flipsky 4.12. I tore my hair out.

I decided to do something new, never before heard of. Follow the instructions to the letter. It worked.

To the left of the "Apply" button there is a button with a circle and a question mark. Click it, and do EXACTLY what it says, in the order it says it. Don't skip anything.

k, i got it working.

two things:

1 - when using the dual setup, only one of the ESC sides has a PWM cable - you gotta be on that side. (duh.)

2 - like stianaj says, follow the directions exactly.  don't plug in your receiver when you are getting setup.  it still throws errors but then it'll work after a few times.

so yeah, kinda sucky but it'll work out.

Stianaj,

Which instructions are you referring to? I have the same problem but can't find where you mean about the "Apply" button?

Cheers.

Hi guys,

I have the same problem and i have a Dual 6.6 and a VX2 ... on the version 3.63 VESCTOOL.

I do not understand the 6 steps to follow ...

1) Activate the PPM app and reboot the VESC.

2) Set the PPM control mode to disable the motor configuration.

3) Connect the remote.

4) Activate app realtime data streaming in the main toolbar. The input display should show the decoded input value and pulse length if the remote is connected and on.

5) Move the throttle between the minimum and maximum values to get them sampled.

6) Apply the result.

If there was a video ... it would help ;)

It would be cool to have some help ... I desepere :(

I'm also having the same issue - can someone dumb down the instructions for me? I've got the motors sorted and am using a Dual VESC 6.6 mini and the VX2 and to get it all working I just have to be able to get the PPM Pulselength Mapping done.

Thanks in advance!

Yeah same issue, I have the flipsky vx1 remote and a 4.12 Vesc. I read the instructions someone recommended but still nothing. My issue is that when I go into the setup wizard and I try to push the throttle forward, back, and in the middle the bars are not moving one bit not to mention I have full control of the motor even though it says it's off. Also note I have a single motor setup.

thanks and get back to me, Henry V

I am having the same problems as listed above.  If someone could make a video walkthrough of connecting a remote, even if it is not a VX2, that would be awesome.

I have the same EXACT problem.

Im running 4.20+

With the VX2 remote.

I cannot for the life of me get the input settings to recognize my controller pulse widths.

Also for the little instructions 1-6 that is to the left of the apply button.

Where do you disable the PPM-     2) Set the PPM control mode to disable the motor configuration.

Anyone have a link to the video?

Hi,
is there anyone who sorted out the ppm setup issue?
I can't seem to set it up. I also get the following message: "Please activate RT app data and measure Pulselengths first"

I use flipsky dual  vesc 4.20 + flipsky vx1

So it seems that the problem that people are having here isn't with the understanding of the input setup wizard, but with the PPM SIGNAL MAPPING in particular.

I am also experiencing this problem with two different remotes. I have some control over the forward movement of the motor throughought every step of the input setup process, but:

The throttle response/sensitivity is not what it should be if it were properly PPM mapped.

The PPM signal mapping indicator (were you would see your real-time throttle and brake inputs and where I believe the pulselength start and pulselength end values are derived) does not seem to respond at all to any inputs from the controller.

I have tried un-pairing and re-pairing the remote as well as starting the setup with it both off and on. Nothing seems to illicit a response from the signal mapping indicator.

When you select the write to VESC option, even after messing with the input for several minutes and selecting the RTAPP data option on the right, this is when the message appears to tunlrn on RT app data and perform pulselength mapping.

I hope this helps to clarify the problem.

Hello, same problem. bought the flipsky single FSESC 6.6 aluminum case and the VX2 remote pro v6.

I Plugged everything. the remote itself is working fine. It spins the motors before i ran  the vesc-project software.(forward reverse brake... Are ok)

I opened vesc project and ran the entire motor wizard without a problem.

When i tried to run the input wizard to do the PPM mapping, the pulse length were greyed and inexistant.  When i press on apply i receive this message : “Please activate RT app data and measure Pulselengths first”. (The RT app data  was turned on from the beginning!!)

i see no signal from the remote on vesc-tool!

Is it a remote problem? A FSESC problem? A wire problem? Hiw can we diagnose this issue?

Thank you.

Hello All,

I am glad to see i am not alone here but this is a really annoying issue, I go between the issue above with a VX2 and a FS4.2 dual where i can see the pulse mapping signal and asks me to Activate RT APP data and measure pulse length. I have RT APP data on but can for the life of me get the remote to show the signal on the VESC tool. When i use the remote it spins the motors at full speed.

Anything to try or any solutions would be greatly appreciated

Thank you all.

I'm also having issues with programming the PPM.  Also a FSESC 4.2 with VX2.  Motors stutter, but no movement and no PPM mapping, just noise.

I have managed to connect my vx2 to vesc 4.20 by simply selecting the last option instead of ppm. no need to adjust anything else, maybe throttle curve to your liking.

Vx2 is not ppm based remote, hence you won't be able to get ppm data it communicates on different frequencies.

I had this problem, and can confirm that running the vx2 in the nrf set up instead of ppm will give you the answer you're looking for.

omg what a relief, i thought i was going crazy.

Hello everyone

i had the same probleme, beetween Vesc 6.6 mini and remote Vx2

after test all your advices, nothing works...

i found the answer on the web site..:/

don't instal the new firmware...

==> see web site

"

Warm tips:

It is recommended to keep firmware 5.2 from factory ship, the new firmware upgrade may damage the ESC.

"

I hope it will help some of you

good luck
