I can't seem to get the software to connect without being limited because of out of date firmware. I downloaded the new software but it still won't upload the new firmware to the Vesc. Keeps throwing errors and won't connect without a power cycle. Is it possible to check if it has a bootloader or not?
It claims to have FW 3.24 with bootloader 60

Thank you, I figured that's what it was just needed a second opinion :) I overlooked that post 3 times lol guess I have selective sight when tired. I have the board working for now on lipo's till I can find a BMS for my Li ion.
I have the same issue here. But im not authorized to view the link to the other thread.
Power cycle your VESC such that you can connect to it again.
Connect
Go to "Firmware" menu and go to the "Bootloader" tab, now hit the flash button in the bottom right corner. This process is really fast, once finished you have a VESC with bootloader.
Now you van flash the new firmware version.
Yes just worked that out. magaged to find the post linked above. Many thanks
Its always a worry to do something that the software says will ruin everyhting. now for the fun of getting it allsetup in the morning and a ride out me thinks.
The Vescs i have are the ones that came into Trampa monday an di got them tuesday.
Laters
Yes, all VESC 6's shipped to date ( BETA and last Trampa batch) don't have a boot loader. Trampa (they learned this during BETA, Benjamin had to add the flash firmware function to the VESC-tool because of this) knew this but was unwilling to spend the extra minute on the new batch to do this step during testing.
Now every new user will have to make this scary step.
