VESC Tool Instructions

I really like what you are doing, the hardware and software integration is really phenomenal. I am a mechanical engineer and I admire all of the hard work and dedication you have put into this project. Being kind of new to Rasberry Pi and Raspian and also being a software challenged ME, for the life of me I cannot get the VESC tool to load. I tried the Platinum and Free versions (I know they are the same, I had to try) and I cannot get the software to start. I got the BLDC tool to start, but the VESC isn't giving me anything.

Are there any step by step directions for challenged people like me? I don't want to have to use my windows machine.

Thanks,

brschaefer74

Hi brschaefer74

what OS are you using? I guess some Linux, don't you? You need sudo rights (or beeing root) to start it, as hardware access is needed. Mine is running under CentOS6.9 AMD64 with GNOME. I start it as root via xterm.

Thanks for the advice...I will try to start the program as root. Any reason why I didn't have to start the old BLDC tool as root? I am trying to run this on my Raspberry pi running Raspian.

Hi Brian

afaik there's no VESC_Tool for the ARM plattform, but pure x86 based. OSX was on the roadmap (afair), but not ARM so far. That would of course explain the "do not start" experience.

You maybe want to read this:
