PPM duty cycle option not being stored in EEPROM

Hi,
I recently purchased a Flipsky FSESC and motor for an application to "de-spin" a platform on a rocket that can spin at plus or minus 600 RPM. I already had the application working well enough with a more conventional ESC, but was looking for more performance, so I decided to try a VESC. The improvement was spectacular, as shown in this video:

So, what is the problem, you might ask?
The problem is that the only way I could get this sort of performance was by selecting PPM duty cycle control option, and the option would revert back to the apparent default, PPM PID speed control, whenever the power was cycled. Apparently the duty cycle control was not being stored in EEPROM.

This is third party hardware. Not sure how the schematics look and why it would not keep the settings. A VESC definitely keeps the settings it is programmed with. The 4.12 design is also not very good at precision and/or sensolress operation. It only features 2 low side shunts and no phase filtering. Frank, thank you very much for your reply, it confirms my speculation about what is going on. I have ordered a VESC 6. You mentioned that the 4.12 is not good at precision and/or sensorless operation. How much of that was due to 2 low side shunts and no phase filtering or due to software issues? I did update the 4.12's firmware to the latest version and I did get excellent performance with it under PPM duty cycle control.
