Hello,
Please see image below. Sensored-BLDCs for RC cars allow you to adjust/tune the hall-sensor's angle. I wonder if someone can point me in the right direction on how to calculate the sensor angles. There are some electronics/analizers that determine the Sensor's angle but I will like to do it with a VESC.
I honestly can't find any information online on how to do it; but I've been doing some testing and I think is all about timing comparision between the commutation and phase voltage. Does anyone know if I'm on the right track?
If you use a VESC, you don't need to care about this. Just run the motor wizard and your sensors will be detected and configured.
Hi Frank,
Thanks for your response; I want to learn how to find the sensor phase angle. Any advice/things I need to look for?
The VESC-Tool will determine the hall sensor parameters automatically and a hall table is generated.
Motor Settings >> FOC >> Hall Sensor Tab.
:-) "normal" esc can dynamically change timing for increase power. CAN timing "angle" is mechanical adjusted on some motors. But electronic timing can be realised in a diferrent ways
zero timing
fixed timing
bost timing (inramental)
turbo timing
s.m.a.r.t. timing in Castle esc
SmartSense in Tekin esc - motor smooth start on sensors, then sensor is ignored.
We can compare this to "dynamic maping" depend from RPM.
This is more complicated ;-)

VESC work different way than "car" ESC and have not similar mode.
Now I staring use VESC in car and see big difference, i have a lot of "normal" ESC like Castle Tekin ZTW SkyRc Graupner Spektum. One nice thing is SUPER in VESC !!! Thisbis FOC and a lot of software define protection.
