Twisted pair for Can Bus link cable?

Hi not sure if I'm posting this in the right topic. My experience with can bus communication is from the automotive industry. While I never had to spend to much time diagnosing can bus issues I remember that the harness was always twisted pair. I never see it mentioned with the Vesc esc though. Is a twisted pair not needed with the short harness length? Is crosstalk not an issue? I'm getting ready to wire up dual Vesc 6s on a longboard and was wondering if I need to twist the wires or not?

Hi Kenny,

I too have an automotive background and I'm pretty sure your first guess is right. If the cable length is short, just i few centimeters, twisted pair is not needed. At our test bench we use ribbon cables up to about 30 to 40 centimeters with a few Sub-D connectors on it (as y-cables or for even more connections) and we don't have any issues there either.

Thanks for the feed back. I went ahead and twisted the wires anyway, figured it's an easy insurance policy. I used the 1 twist for every 25mm guideline. I was contemplating emi shielding also but thought that would be overkill. LOL
