FSESC 6.6 200A Unable to send signal to slave VESC

I have been up and down looking for what I'm doing wrong or what isn't configured correctly. I am using a 5kohm potentionmeter to supply a ppm input through an arduino to the VESC. the vesc tool that I got from this website is 3.00. There are two micro usb ports on the vesc, and I have figured out which one is the master. I have succesfully gotten one to fully respond to the input from the potentiometer. However, this is where everything goes wrong. This version of vesc tool doesn't have the input setup wizard that allows for a master/slave vesc configuration. This vesc has a toggle switch for "Dual-CAN" that i'm not sure if it's suposed to be enabled or disabled. I have also discovered that the PPM input wire that comes pre soldered up with a 5V/GND/Signal input only seems to go to the master vesc port. The motor setup for the motor on the slave vesc works fine and passes all tests. It does not see any input from the potentiometer like the master vesc sees. I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get the slave vesc which is running an identical motor to accept an input from the master. All of the tutorials and videos seem to have a different version of vesc tool that eases this setup. Please, even if it's just linking me a forum post where I can learn how to figure this out, anything is appreciated.
