It would be interesting if there is a difference to V4 regarding adding capacitors with long power cables. I just received 2x VESC 6 (niiiiice!) and thinking about mounting them on the back of my trampa. Right now I have the V4.12's inside the battery enclosure and long phase wires. In my case the power cables would have a length of about 50-60 cm.
I was talking about that and doing some simulations in this video:
based on my conclusion it is not really needed, and you would have to put the capacitors very close to make any difference at all.
Wow, what a video, respect! I couldn't follow all steps due to lack of knowledge but my question is answered, thanks!
How to choose ESR?
How to choose the capacity?
I want to reduce the capacitor.
Basically lower ESR = less heat = caps last longer before the vesc goes boom
For capacity you need to simulate the circuit with his PSpice file. Takes a while before you understand all the variables. Main one being inductance, if its too high it doesn't matter how much capacitance you have it will always blow up.
Thank you
50cm should be fine without additional caps. Make sure that the wires are thick enough (AWG11 or 10).
