FOC Issue

Something strange is happening that wasn't happening before, and I can't figure out why.

When I connect my VESC (HW 410, firmware 334) to the VESC_Tool (0.87) and use the wizard to set it up for FOC, it spins my (sensored 140KV) outrunner nicely at the appropriate places in setup, but won't work at any other point after the wizard. (like in the standard VESC_Tool interface, or when controlling over UART). I do get a bunch of sound/growls from the motor, and very little back and forward movement, but no proper rotation.

When I setup in BLDC mode everything works as expected, but that one is a bit loud at the low speeds, so i much prefer using the FOC, which was working fine before.

Thanks!

In the Wizard it spins up your motor in BLDC to detect the values required to run FOC. Maybe you have a FOC issue with your hardware. What kind of HW do you use?

Hi Frank.

It's a 4.12 clone I got from https://www.scramboards.com/ last year. You might be right that it's a specific issue with the components which make the FOC possible. Do you know of a way to troubleshoot this?

Thanks!

I don't know the Hardware, or if it can run FOC. Probably it's best to get a VESC SIX. No issues, no worries.

Thanks. You're probably right :-) I've made moves towards making that happen.

We've used those 2 PCB VESC clones from China quite extensively for our 4 c80100 motors in the 110Kg combat robot, they will do FOC quite happily. But it does seem FOC is dependent on the motor you choose as to how easy it is to setup.

Are you sure that the communication protocols are the same as previous firmware??
