Field weakening and MTPA

Two questions regarding field weakening and MTPA:

1: I understand Field Weakening and MTPA can make the motor run faster. Is there a benefit to using either of them if the BLDC is used primarily as a generator?

2: These options disappear when I connect my Turning ESK8 V2. Is there something missing from that Vesc or my motor settings that would disable this option?

FW and MTPA are specific to FOC mode of operation.

I am operating in FOC with regeneration current at 80 amps, and will drive with a 7 hp 2 stroke engine with RPM set at its max torque value. I have a mosfet/zener circuit after the VESC to keep voltage constant at 12s into the battery.  Can MTPA be thought of as Max Amps per Torque Input when generating?  Trying to squeeze every ounce of efficiency out to lower cooling requirements for this drone project. I just didn't know if MTPA or field weakening would help from a generation perspective. Besides, those 2 options just disappear when I plug in the VESC to my laptop
