Setup parameters for battery in VESC Tool

How to setup the correct values for battery parameters in VESC TOOL Free.

I have a battery pack 42V from a large wheel hoverboard. Theres's any info about voltage and milliamper data on the battery pack.

I measured with a voltage meter:

  • Two battery cells are connected parallel: 2 x 4.12V = 4.12V
  • These two batterys are connected in series with another two parallel batterys: 2 x 4.12V = 8.24V
  • These four batterys form a package. There are five packages: 5 x 8.24V = 41.2V

In the configuration menu – Setup Motors FOC:

  • What is the correct value of "battery cells series" concerning my battery?
  • What is the ( your estimation! ) value of "battery capacity" concerning my battery?

Any help is appreciated

Hello I'm new and you may have figured this out already. Round cells in the pack are probably 18560's with about  3,000 mah each, since you have 42 volts that's 10 in series, 4.12 volts per cell.

If it looks like 10 round cells you have 3,000 mha battery, if it looks like 20 round cells, 6,000 mah battery, 30 cells 9,000 mah etc....

I'm pretty sure the 18650s won't actually have 3Ah in them.

Ulrich: Please post up some pictures of what you've got, that would be really helpful! But the VESC doesn't really need any information about the battery pack. It can be helpful to have the VESC warn you that you have consumed the battery pack capacity but the voltage will also tell you this.

Photolad61: If I search for hoverboard battery packs on AliExpress I get quite a few results of 10s2p packs with a capacity of 4.4Ah, so 20x 18650s at 2.2Ah each. That seems more reasonable.

You're  right TheFallen,  I thought about that later.
