firmware too old!

Hello all

Not sure if this is the right place but here goes.

I have recently purchased a vesc from ebay in the uk. I have just tried to connect it and instantly got a message saying firmware is too old, please update with a programmer.

I thought this was the latest model. I am confused and dont know how to resolve this. I am using the new vesc tool and https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/183433522210  link to vesc ive purchased.

I am only a hobbyist trying to get an electric scooter ive put together to work.  First time using this software.

Please can anyone help.

Thanks

That ESC is "based upon the VESC". Only the seller can tell you what changes they've made compared to the VESC, and if (and how) you need to modify the official firmware to be able to use it with their ESC.

VESC firmware 2.54 is very old (actually I don't think that version ever existed; it went from 2.18 to 3.0, I think - and 2.x was meant to be used with the old bldc-tool configuration tool). The current official firmware version is 3.40 and is configured with vesc_tool. The latest VESC hardware is 6.something.

Edit: Note that they are required by the VESC firmware license (GPL) to supply the exact source code they used to build their version of the firmware to their customers.
