Problem- Regen tripping out BMS on battery pack

Hello,

We are having a problem with the VESC Re-gen/braking Amps tripping out the BMS on the battery pack we are using.

We are having to disable the braking function, it would be good to have braking on our project so we can slow down, but for now are running this in 'current' mode and freewheel if no throttle.

Question?

  1. Is there a way we can use the Re-gen function through the VESC but dump this into larger capacitors before the battery pack?
  2. Can we feed the VESC through some diodes to allow the current to NOT flow back to the battery BMS?

Our battery pack is:

21aHr pack at 36V

80 cells of 18360 ( 8 sets of 10 cells)

cheers

jason

Why is it tripping your BMS? A diagram of your setup might help.

You will not be able to brake without dumping the power somewhere. Capacitors have way too little energy storage to help at all.

Your BMS discharge needs to be connected to P-, not C-, and the return flow will not break
