VESC 6 EDU not working - possible component failure?

Hello,

I'm having issues with my new VESC 6 EDU. My motor is a Traxxas TRX3351R and I am using a 2S LiPo battery. After loading a configuration file from the internet in VESC Tool for this motor for sensorless FOC, and running the R/L and flux linkage measurements, everything worked fine at first. However, after modifying some basic parameters (unfortunately, I can't remember exactly which ones), the board stopped working. The following observations were made with the board connected to the battery and via USB to a notebook:

  • Initially, the STM32 booted and I could connect to it via the VESC Tool.
  • When I tried to run the motor or execute the R/L test, the STM32 reset and the serial port became unavailable. After five seconds, the STM32 booted again and I could reconnect to it via the VESC Tool. Sometimes I also received the FAULT_CODE_UNDER_VOLTAGE error and the STM32 stayed alive, but that did not happen often.
  • While trying to resolve the issue, I changed the parameter in "Motor Settings -> General -> Advanced -> Minimum Current" to 0 A, which was not a very clever idea as it turned out. Since then, it seems that the board tries to start each 5 seconds. I can hear a short, quiet beep from an electrical component, but I cannot determine which one. The board then resets immediately. It is also no longer available in the VESC Tool.

For testing purposes, I also powered the board with a power supply. Using an oscilloscope, I observed that the voltage briefly drops to 0 V when the reset occurs.

Based on my observations, I suspect there is a short circuit or broken component in the motor's current path, as the crashes only occurred when I tried to run the motor and now happen continuously after setting "Minimum Current" to 0 A. Visually, I cannot see any obviously defective parts on the PCB.

Does anyone have any ideas about what could be broken or any suggestions about how I can identify the issue? I would be grateful for any suggestions. Thank you!
