Hi there, i am very new to the vesc and electic motor world.
i have started to build a setup for an ebike but have some basic problems with settings up the controller / motor combination. here is my current setup:
- Motor: Q100C CST 36V 350W rear hub, 3 phase wires, 6 signal wires (connected only the 5 hall wires, white cable left unconnected)
- Controller: FLIPSKY Mini FSESC6.7 PRO, running latest firmware, configured via VESC Tool on Mac
- Battery: 48V, 13S Li-ion, 13Ah
- Wheel size: 28” (715mm diameter)
- Hall sensors and phase wires are manually connected, not using the white (“tacho/speed?”) cable
- Sensor wires: Red (+5V), Black (GND), Blue/Green/Yellow (Hall A/B/C, order may be mismatched)
- Motor phases: Blue, Green, Yellow (order may be mismatched)
The white cable from the motor seems to send one pulse every roation, so i left it unconnected since i (think) i dont need it for now.
here are my questions:
-
When I spin the wheel by hand, it turns heavy in one direction and light in the other. If I change the direction setting in VESC Tool (reverse/forward), the “heavy” direction also changes. Is this a wiring issue or is that expected behavior? It also is like this if the batter is not even connected ( but the esc is connected)

In the VESC Tool realtime interface, speed (km/h) is only shown when spinning the wheel manually in one direction (in the heavy rotating direction) when spinned manually. Spinning the wheel the other way does not show any speed. This happens regardless of whether the hall sensors are connected or not. Why is speed only detected in one direction?

I suspect there is an issue with the wiring (?). How do I check if the phase and hall sensors are correctly connected and matched? Is it enough to run “Start Detect” in VESC Tool, or do I need to swap phase/hall wire order manually? What is the best method to ensure correct wiring for smooth running and proper speed detection?
Thanks a lot for help for a newbe ;)
Cheers!
