Trouble with Sensorless Startup on Trampa 6376 160Kv Motors (VESC 6 Dual, FW 6.05)

Hi everyone,

I’m having a lot of trouble getting smooth sensorless startup with my setup and I’m hoping someone here has experience with the same hardware and can offer some tips.

My setup: VESC 6 Dual (Firmware 6.05, official)

Trampa 6376 160Kv motors (sensorless)

Trampa rear truck with their gear drive system

Mountainboard build

Problem:

The board struggles to start from a standstill. When I apply throttle from 0 speed, both motors jitter and oscillate back and forth for a long time (sometimes up to 30 seconds) before they manage to spin properly — and sometimes they don't start spinning at all. Once moving, performance is great, but initial startup is extremely unreliable and frustrating.

I’ve tried:

Motor detection multiple times

Adjusting Startup Boost, Observer Gain, Sensorless ERPM, etc.

Trying both HFI and Sensorless FOC (HFI is worse in my case)

Disabling HFI and relying purely on sensorless detection

Still, no real improvement. I understand sensorless motors can’t detect position at 0 ERPM, but this level of delay and unreliability seems abnormal.

Question:

Has anyone here successfully used the Trampa 6376 160Kv motors in a sensorless configuration? If so, could you share your working VESC settings or any advice for getting reliable startup?
