VESC usefull for high speed regeneration?

Hi guys I'm new on this community. The VESC project are really interested especially the facilitation for a noob like me.

My question is during regenerative operation if for example have a VESC that support 100V and a battery pack of 55V is it possible to spin the EM at the speed when it produce 100V and obtain from the VESC a voltage of 55V to the battery? Is it works vice versa when the motor spin at low speed and generate low voltage?

How much %Kw loss I can expect for this conversion if it is possible?

P.S. : VESC and EM are water cooled.

In fact it could be tried and used, but actually syncronious rectification should be used, but I do not know if it is implemented or not, max. Dissipation is to be calculated as 1.7*1*current,

Thank you for the answer. The formula in the end is fixed or change with the voltage or others parameters? Do you think that VESC are not able to achieve an efficient current regeneration?

In the previous post on the forum I saw that VESC operates like a buck converter is it true or not?

Be careful on regeneration mode that your motor voltage does not exceed battery voltage, otherwise that regeneration current is no more controlled with your setpoint and current flow goes in hundred of amps to battery with a risk of overvoltage and overcharging.

Thank for your reply. If for example buy a performance VESC like the Trampa's model that is rated for max 100V and I have a 48V battery pack with a max charge current of 100 A. In my application the problem is to achieve high torque at low RPM but at the same time can regen at very high speed from 7000 to 9000 rpm at maximum. For example if I uses a low Kv motor torque at low speed increase but when I regen at high speed the voltage are for example at maximum the double of the battery. In this scenario VESC rated for 100 V can convert in a 48V and x amps for the battery pack, if the power generated doesn't exceed the max charge current of battery?
