Input wizard and/or firmware not working for Mini ESC 4.2 with PPM input?

I'm using a Taranis transmitter and x8r receiver with two Mini ESC's.  They were working until I updated the firmware and motor setup.  The motor setup wizard worked fine but the input wizard did not work. And I haven't been able to fix it using the PPM app.  The throttle has only full speed and off or it goes spastic.  Thanks

PS   Thanks for editing the earlier version Frank.  I'd be grateful for any help.

I tried it again today.  I reloaded the 5.2 firmware.  The motor set up wizard worked fine.  The Input Wizard this time required me to close it and do the mapping first by using the PPM app.  The PPM app wouldn't read my throttle input.  I turned on the real time data app but that did not help.  I've checked my RC transmitter and receiver and I know they're working. This is more than a hobby for me.  I'd really like to use these controllers in a niche consumer product.  If anyone can walk me though this or maybe send me an older firmware version to try, I'll return the favor.  My email is mark.shipowick@gmail.com.  Thanks.

I downloaded a .96 VESC Tool version and loaded the 3.4 firmware but I still had the same issue.  The PPM app mapping tab asks you to run the real time data app first before it will apply the mapping choice, but clicking real time data app for some reason still doesn't allow the Tool to read the throttle input to do the mapping.   The debugging log show applying pulse length failed messages but that was from clicking the PPM app to apply the "off" condition.  It would not apply the off condition until I used the real time data app. So I'm not able to get mapping done by the Real Time Data app.  When I click that icon on the right toolbar it turns green but that's all I can see.  Moving the throttle when it is green doesn't accomplish the mapping.

(But, I clicked on the "Use arrow keys" for motor control and that works.)
