vesc 3.3 or 5v is shorted to GND

Hello everyone,

I am using VESCs and some of them while flashing with USB, stopped working and even when I tried to flash with SWD I got errors. I found out that in them either the 3.3v or 5v is shorted to GND. Does anyone has any idea why this might've happened?

My own guess is that the 5 to 3.3 regulator is the source of problem but I'm not sure. I would appreciate any help or suggestion to stop this from happening in future.

Best,

So un update on the issue, I took out the 5 to 3.3v regulator and checked with multimeter but there didn't seem to be a short between pins. However in one of the vescs that 5v and GND were shorted, I took out D5 that is directly between the two and it seemed shorted on both directions. The vesc was flashed with success after I took the diode out. Does anyone have any idea of what could have malfunctioned?
