Hello, I am looking into VESC as the base hardware and firmware design for a 4 in 1 ESC PCB for use in a custom quadcopter. I have designed BLDC ESCs in the past that used propreitary firmware. I like the open source nature of the VESC project.
I would like to know what I can slim down on the hardware to fit 4 ESCs on one board. Can I drop the current sensors for the 3 phases?
I'm actually interested in doing the exact same thing. I wanted a custom 4 in 1 ESC that can control x4 2207 or similarly sized BLDC's, that can also accept dshot or other input. Do you plan on making this an open project?
There's plenty of BLHeli-32 based 4-in-1 high current ESCs that are far better suited to driving the smaller drone sized motors that ought to accept dshot.
You could certainly drop the current sensors but you'd also be unable to use FOC then. You could get away with just 2 current sensors and still have FOC. VESC is not really designed to miniturised well. But check out the A50S for a small one.
