Tuning Advanced Settings For BLDC

Hello,

My first post here. It has been a fun journey so far getting familiar with the VESC ver4.12. I installed a larger than usual motor I see the VESC's used for into my Razor scooter.

Although my setup runs good overall, I'm looking to understand how I can reduce some cogging at the low end which I find other threads mentioning about while using BLDC mode.

Some of my issues could be from the BMU limits (25A peak) for my battery output at 48V (10Ah li-ion), but I believe there is more to be had from adjusting settings in the BLDC mode advanced settings, or possibly some other setting such as startup boost. I've done quite a bit of searching and a ton of trial and error to figure out what these settings actually do. I'm afraid I might be adjusting in the wrong range for some of the settings.

Here's my setup:

VESC 4.12

Bluetooth with VESC tool app on tablet mounted on the scooter handle bars.

MY1020 BLDC 1800W 4500RPM brushless motor (I calculated about 104kv but not able to confirm specs)

48V 13s li-oin 10Ah battery - Might switch to three 4s li-po batteries from RC car to see if I can get more current

Sensor mode: Hydrid with ERPM set to 1400

ADC throttle with  +14% exp set to exponential

Completed BLDC setup (not FOC) and confirmed values for hall sensors

Adjusted startup boost to 0.08 - helps low end a lot

Turned up current control gain to 0.00510

Current Control Ramp Step Max set to 0.0900 (based on advice from another thread. It seems to help and there's a sweet spot 0.085 - 0.09, above or below this range the cogging gets worse

I would like to know generally what can be done to try to tune out the cogging or bogging that occurs just after starting from a stop if I throttle too much. I'm interested to know if I should use Duty Cycle mode instead of current control. When I tried it felt stronger torque but more cogging happens.

My goal is to better understand the BLDC control in general and of course optimize the performance of my setup.  If there is additional information about the mentioned values or have any hints I can try it would be much appreciated.

Did you ever find anymore information on your setup? Why did you choose BLDC over FOC?
