USB connection between Android App and VESC fails

My VESC 6 controller (Maytech) works fine connected via USB cable with the windows VESC tool.

Now I installed the Android app (via .apk file) on my Android 6.0.1 phone (Sony xperia Z3) and I finally found the correct cable USB-C (VESC) to micro-USB (Z3).

But no connection is shown, also I don't see any option for USB connection in the VESC app.

I tried "Allow USB debugging" and changing USB profile, also I set all app permission for the tool - no success.

How is the USB connection meant to be used, or activated?

First of all Maytech is not making VESC controllers, so you should be a bit more specific about the hardware you use. It probably has no built in Bluetooth module and therefore the app can't connect. You will need a VESC software compatible BLE module to establish a connection. https://trampaboards.com/vesc-connect-nrf-wireless-dongle-p-26767.html

You could also use the desktop version of VESC-Tool to establish a USB connection to your ESC.

At least 'Maytech' is printed on the sticker of my VESC:

I understand that Bluetooth only works with specific BT hardware.

But my question was simply:

Is the Android (.apk) tool meant to work with a USB connection?

What frank means, is maytech makes ESCs that run the VESC firmware. They do not make "official" VESC hardware and they should not be calling them VESC 6 or anything similar with the name VESC in it.

For example my controllers are called A50S, A100S and A200S, in the description I then state that they run the VESC Firmware like this:

The A50S is based upon the VESC®*-Project.

* VESC is a registered TM, owned by Benjamin Vedder

Some of the other china esc makers call them things like SUPERFOC and such like, Flipsky says in the titles of their products "based on VESC" although they miss the trademark symbol...

I am using a waterproof system with a VESC based controller inside. Only USB and PPM connections are available to me. No UART. No Bluetooth. I would like to log data on a cheap Android phone instead of taking a bigger windows device on the water. Has USB cable support for Android been added since?

I have similar Maytech VESC.  I can't even get Windows or Mac to see them.  Can't connect to VESC Tool to modify program.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Went down a rabbit hole with a project with little to no computer expertise and am drowning.  Would a kind soul help me?
