Position issue

Hi all,

Just started with the excellent new and improved  VESC tool but had the same issue with the BLDC_tool before. Seems for me the position function isn't working as expected. If I turn it on the motor makes a terrible noise and shakes like a pollaroid picture on steroids.

-Motor : Racerstar 6056 140 KV

-Sensored (i expect hall sensor as there is no explicit mention anywhere about the type of sensors this has (has 5 threaded sensor cable coming from the motor)

-Calibrated as FOC

Any thoughts?

Position is not supported with hall, must have an encoder for that.

If you have an encoder, in the Foc-general tab set sensor mode to ABI  and then use the encoder detect function in the FOC-Encoder tab.

The you must tune the position PID controller.

Did the terrible noise and shaking cause any damage to your set up.  I accidentally pressed Position last night and had the same experience.  Now my motor won't spin when I try the speed function.  Did you just erase all settings and start again?

Running the motor detection wizard again solved the sound.
