I followed the steps to compile and build the vesc tool in linux using the steps listed in the "windows_build" file. The build completes with no errors and the .exe file runs on my windows machine. However when I try to connect to my vesc 6 I get the dreaded "cannot read firmware" error. The catch is if I use the pre-built exe downloaded from the web site it connects perfectly. Any suggestions would be very welcome.

Same for me here. When I compile from Ubuntu I get a good working linux version. On the other hand, the one that I compile from Windows Qt does not detect my vesc just like you.
