Can you give me some advices as I have to shorten and reduce the shaft diameter of a motor?!
It seems that the material used is extremely hard.
Of course I've seen videos that shows to use a plastic bag with tape to prevent iron fillings to be attracted by the magnets.
But what tool to use and how to have a very clean and well done work?!
The shaft is 10mm dia and I have to reduce it to 8mm as precisely as possible.
Original shaft is 10mm +0 -0.007mm!!!
Concentricity is also a concern, and I cannot remove the shaft which is pressfitted.

Are you able yo remove the bell? If so, I would hold it in a lathe and use a grinder attachment on the post to grind it down.

Other than grinding you pretty much got no chance with that. I tried and its just to hard for turning or drilling. Even a hacksaw failed and I had to resort to an angle grinder.
Yes, my saw has no more teeth now :-) :-)
But what about ceramic tools, but where to find them at an affordable price?!
Perhaps it's the solution.

If you just need to shorten the shaft an angle grinder with abrasive cutoff wheel could be enough. I use an angle grider with a diamond grinding blade, if you cool the shaft with water it works flawless.

The material was not as hard as expected.
Only the coating was hard, under that the material was workable with classic lathe tools.

even a dremel tool can grind the shaft, a rotozip would be even better...
grind the shaft with the motor turning if you can, this will improve concentricity (roundness on center)...
you must take care to not overheat the shaft, which will cause it to soften and/or overheat internal windings...
