Has any work been on using VESC to control a mid-drive motor on an electric bike?
Currently there are a several big manufacturers making mid-drive motors, with the big ones being Bosch, Shimano, and Yamaha. However, none of them sell repair parts, so if anything goes bad other than a bearing, the motor either needs to be replaced under warranty or a new motor needs to be purchased. Has any work been done on replacing the electronics of a mid-drive motor with a VESC? All the motors are essentially just takinf input from a torque sensor and powering a BLDC motor proportionately.
It would be great to break out from the vendor lock in.
Sure, the VESC can drive those motors.
Do you know anyone who has done it yet?
Your biggest problem is probably the torque sensor feedback. But there should be plenty of solution on the endless sphere forum.
You could start with a throttle lever.
