Newbie - controller/motor not working

Hi all, UK newbie here.

This is my first post, so thanks in advance.

I am undergoing an electric scooter conversion project (similar to what a friend did with excellent results). I have brought all the kit and attempted to bench-test it but I cannot get it working.

Although I am a 23 year time served electronics/electrical technician, I have no experience or knowledge of these controllers, motors or software etc, I'm assuming the problem is something to do with software settings, or incompatible throttle etc. This is my kit:

Motor:

Controller:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FLIPSKY-FSESC-V4-50A-SK8-ESC-W-5V-1-5A-BEC-Fo...

My battery is a 10s LiPo pack with a 50A BMS currently fitted & throttle is a bog standard 3-wire thumb throttle, with Red, Black & Green wires

I tried to follow advice on here & other forums and to connect the throttle to the Analogue digital converter input (ADC pin), along with the 3.3v supply pin & negative pin, i'm not sure if this is correct?.

I have downloaded the VESC tool software & that appears to be working ok & is communicating with the controller. When I power up I have the Blue + Green LED's lit on the PCB

Can anyone advise me on the settings I need to carry out in the software and if I have made an error in connecting the throttle.

Finally what is the difference between the BLDC tool software & the VESC tool software? - my controller wouldn't connect to BLDC tool (kept saying the firmware was out of date), however it connects to the VESC tool software

Thanks in advance

Jamie

Hi Jlow75, I came across your posting and I’m having the same problem with my adc throttle not responding. Did you end up solving your problem? Thanks,Bryan

You need to run the input wizard and configure the ADC inputs to match 0 to 100% throttle. For safety place a 10K resistor in between ADC and GND ( place next to ESC) , so that a perforated wire will not send a full throttle command. The 10K resistor will pull the input signal to GND in case the adc signal wire snaps.

I Tried setting up the throttle in wizard, it doesn't respond to it at all. Thank you for the 10k resistor info!
