Sudden kick (from motor current cut off?)

Hi!

I have a 4.10 VESC running with a HK D5035-125KV motor (FOC) running on 10Ah 12S Multistar LiPo.

When I fully press throttle the motor stops with an awful skitting sound and a sudden kick.

The newest firmware ist installed and the current is limited to 60A motor and 70A battery. The remote control is properly set.

Any hints how to prevent this behavior? (Right now I am riding with a lot of throttle expo, but on some hills the kick comes in earlier.)

thanks,

Daniel

I was having a similar issue. I was able to resolve it by raising Absolute Maximum Current in Motor Settings->General->Current. When I checked the realtime data, even though the motor current is set to 60A, there are still some momentary spikes that go over that limit which I imagine triggered that setting. Let me know if this resolves it for you.

60A is to much for the motor and in consequence you get those dropouts. Try 45-50A and you should be sorted. Frank

Thanks,

I´ve tried 70A and 150A Absolute, but skipping was even worse. Now I´ll try 45A...

But I have thought that a too high motor current will overheat the motor and not stop it!? The motor was not even hand warm today.

too high motor currents for a small motor will bring the motor into saturation, making it difficult for the tracking and control loops even when the motor is cold. FOC relies on stable motor parameters to work well and efficiently.

Warning!

I am a total idiot! I have forgotten about my own thread here....

Sunday I have tried out my new Flipsky V2 remote and went up a hilly street with about 25km/h. Suddenly the board stopped an I landed on my left eye. This ended with a orbital blowout fracture, the eyeball broke through the lower bone of the eye socket. But this could have ended even worse!

The motor amps were set much too high for my my 5035 motor, but I have not encountered any breakdowns in the past, so I thought the newer software revisions are save to overpower the motor.

This is absolutely not true, so be warned, there is no failsafe. (this is common sense, but maybe it could help! ;)
