Problem with breaking in use in RC plane

I'm use and ESC with VESC in an RC plane. It someone works but if I am going at high power then slam the throttle to zero, the momentum of the propeller spins the prop nut off and the propellor comes flying off. If I slowly back the throttle to zero, everything is fine.  I suspect what is happening here is that when I slam the throttle to zero,  regenerative breaking i causing enough torque in the opposite direction the prop is spinning that if unscrews the prop nut. 

Have others had this problem ? any advice ? is there a way limit how fast the ERPM decrease to zero to minimize this ? I'm under the impression there is no way to eliminate regenerative breaking as the energy needs to go somewhere - is that wrong ?

You can define a higher ramping time in the PPM app. The VESC does not brake when you don't give it a brake signal, so the enertia is only from the motor.

Maybe you chose PID speed control and not current control? Current control is the mode you want (current no reverse no brakes).

I set up the PPM in "Duty Cycle No Reverse" as the control type and set the negative ramping time to 0.8 seconds and this seemed to have fixed the problem.
