VESC tool repeatedly not recognising firmware

I just bought a VESC 6 Plus from Trampaboards along with the wireless dongle and been using it for a week now, I've bought the app for configuration etc. However every second day or so when I connect, it says that the firmware is too old and that functionality is reduced, and that I need to update the firmware. Keep in mind the board still works fine, and all settings from last time I used it is still in place. I update the firmware through the app (which is updated to the same version as I updated to the day before) and run the configuration wizard. And then everything works, for a day or so, then it repeats. I'm using a Samsung S8 and have yet had no other issues. Is this a known issue? Can I supply some log or addtional data? Is there any suggested solution to this?

I have a VESC 6 (regular) from Flipsky and after updating to the most recent firmware (3.57) I too am getting a almost identical error. After updating the firmware and rebooting the VESC (giving it more than enough time to prevent interrupting it and possibly bricking it), I plug in the USB cable and within a couple seconds I get an error: "Can't read the firmware. Make sure the Cable is plugged into the correct port and that the VESC is powered on".

I know that's not the same error you are getting but my issue only happens on one half of the VESC (I have the VESC 6 Dual), the other half is fine. Is your issue on both sides or just one?

Sorry I couldn't provide any help towards your problem. These VESC forums do not seem to have much participation for some reason...

Did you try to simply re-connect? There will be an updated version of the mobile app soon. Hopefully that will resolve it.

I can't communicate with the VEsc

When I received the FSESC 4.12 I connected it to the PC via USB, I updated the firmware and started the motor using the computer arrow buttons.

Today I tried to reconnect but the VESC Tool does not recognize the VESC.

The USB port is detected by Windows and when I remove power from the VESC I see that its USB port disappears from the management of Windows devices.

The COMM number is correct and the speed is at 115200.

But the VESC Tool does not communicate.  The message is:

Could not read firmware version. Make sure that the selected port really belongs to the VESC.

Is it possible to reset the VESC?

Please help me.

Hello, same issue here.

i played around in the settings (android VESC app), lastly changed the throttle voltages, and then the connection dropped. since then i cannot connect anymore,

(VESC 6mk4, official BLE adapter)

It pairs, then the "Read Firmware Version" pops up and it disconnects.

Phone reboot, VESC reboot, did not help.

Anything i can do?

solved it for me:

i switched the "app" from "UART" to "ADC" then it stopped working...

Solution: Connect with USB and switch to "UART with ADC" -> App works again smiley
