Can't connect to slave vesc via master usb in vesc-tool -SOLVED-

Hey there,

i'm using dual HW 4.12 with FW 3.26, i have no access to the slave vesc when the usb cable is connected to the master vesc.
after clicking the CAN button in vesc-tool and clicking "connect" i get this error message:
"Could not read firmware version. Make sure that selected port really belongs to the VESC.

I don't know if this is a bug of vesc-tool or if i'm doing something wrong.

Benjamin is on holidays at the moment, and he is the one who can answer your questions. We have tested dual VESC 4 on Benjamin's bike. Everything worked just fine. Check your master/slave settings again. ID of VESCs? 0 and 1... Both VESC have the same FW? Both VESCs work as singles? Switch master and slave. Check settings in left sidebar (App Settings). Did you check your CAN bus cable? CAN L to CAN L and H to H? These are the only two pins you need to connect. Jens had similar problems but his cable was crossed over. Frank

I had similar issues when configuring my VESC 6 HW. It ended up being a poor connection of the CAN wire. Double check your wires and JST pins! Also, make sure the grounds of each VESC are not floating in relation to one another.

Cheers!

Hi Josh,

my english is the best. What do you mean with "make sure the grounds of each VESC are not floating in relation to one another"? The ground wire?

thx for help.

Make sure the ground wires are connected with little resistance between them. It usually is not an issue unless you run off of independent power supplies or have really long or high guage wires.

Cheers!

WAIT!

There are two ways to wire "multiple VESCs connected with can bus".

1) Use one big battery pack. Both VESCs get big wires for power from the same battery. Preferably both wires are similar in length, and go from the battery to VESC. Not battery-vesc-vesc.  In this case, connect only CANL and CANH between the VESCs.

2) Two separate battery packs. Each VESC has its own battery pack. Now you need to connect CANL, CANH and GND between the two vescs. Note that the second VESC will have exactly 8 conductors attached: the three CAN wires, three to the motor and 2 to the battery.

Make sure that you have chosen the right Controler ID under the "Connection" Tap on the left ...

After setting this to the wished ID it should connect ...

Cheers

VESC beta share some software problems at this that they were not connected to the server or need to have reviews on it. I need to get solution on this so I visit https://ukessay.com/plagiarism-checker this was the site that was created by them or they have all details about this on it that was useful to read.
