FOC detection needs load?

Hi all,

I was wondering if the parameters detection for the FOC requires the load to be attached to the motor.

R,L and lambda shouldn't be related to the load, nor the current observer, so I don't think so, but just to be sure...

No you don't need a load. Although for some big motors you might need to give it a little friction on the R&L test. If your motor starts spinning when measuring R&L you will get the wrong resistance measurement, normally much higher value than it should be (e.g. 30mOhm instead of 6mOhm). So you might need to run it several times until it doesn't move.

Lambda measurement should spin up the motor. For big motors you might need to reduce the ERPM and increase current, for small motors you might need to increase the ERPM.
