Mounting points through the PCB

Hi,

The heatsink has M5 threaded holes I assumed to allow it to be mounted neatly, however the PCB doesn't allow an M5 bolt to pass through the holes meaning you can't mount the VESC on stand-offs with the connectors facing the neck and the heatsink facing away from the deck where it would get better cooling and protect the connectors.

Is there enough clearance around these holes to allow them to be widened to allow an M5 bolt to pass through? Maybe in the production release?

Thanks,

Neil.

Why not use M4. You can stick a M4 through a M5 thread. This way we nailed both mounting options. Frank

Sure, it would just mean nuts on that lovely smooth surface! Looking at the PCB on the connector side it seems to be mainly just PCB material with just an antenna right in the middle so there's not actually anything near the holes so they could afford to be 1mm wider. Anyway I'll look for some longer M4 bolts.

If you want to screw from the top side, you can choose a flat M4 dome head, if you screw in from the bottom side you can make use of the M5 threads, that is the idea. We didn't want to put more holes in, so the M4/M5 solution was the way forward. If you want to drill out the PCB, that is possible and takes less than a minute. So now you have plenty of options.
